Australia Refugee Volunteers (ARV) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney, Australia. The main objective of ARV is to improve the lives of children and families from asylum seeker and refugee backgrounds.

Often fleeing from their homeland due to tragedies such as political upheaval, persecution, war or poverty, refugees and asylum seekers suffer great personal loss and trauma. In order to improve their situations and integrate families into society, ARV has established a number of programs that include art workshops, sport days, social outings and school holiday camps. Through these sessions, we aim to assist our clients through the development of self-confidence, English, reading and writing capability, and social and leadership skills – all leading to a development of their personal and cultural identity.

ARV programs provide essential recreational and developmental opportunities for children, families and adults which ease loneliness and isolation and improve physical and mental health. ARV aims to increase the number of smiles on the faces of children and adults by promoting fun, laughter and relaxation. We are committed to empowering individuals and families and building more cohesive, tolerant communities.

ARV is non-religious and non-political. We believe in working with everyone to do what is needed to be done, including the Australian Government. We are not interested in being antagonistic to other organisations, the Government or anyone else. All we are interested in is improving the lives of the kids and families we work with and providing our volunteers with a safe, fun and passionate environment to make a difference in!
