Our Kids on the colourful bouldering wall

Our Kids Program (7 - 12 year olds) had such a fun day at rock climbing Elevate Climbing Gym in Villawood, and it was amazing to watch them get braver with every turn. They started out on the smaller walls, getting comfortable and working out how everything worked, but it did not take long before they were ready to give the bigger walls a go.

Some made it halfway up on their first try, then came back for another go and climbed even higher. With each turn, they got more confident, more adventurous, and more willing to try different walls. It was so great to see them backing themselves and giving new things a go.

One of the youngest in the group was the very first to volunteer to demonstrate how belaying worked, which really set the tone for the day.

There was plenty more fun beyond the climbing too. The group explored the caves with glow sticks and turned them into all kinds of fun jewellery, which was a real vibe, and a big hit.

Our volunteers got right into it as well - cheering the kids on, calling out encouragement while belaying, and sometimes even climbing up themselves to help kids out of a tricky spot. Their support made such a difference and helped make the whole day feel safe, fun and full of energy.

We wrapped things up with a delicious lunch of meats, falafel and chicken rice, while some of the fasting volunteers and kids kept busy with other activities.

It was a great venue, the team there looked after us so well, and the whole day was such a lovely mix of courage, fun and trying something new. We would love to do it again sometime.

Join ARV as a volunteer if you’re keen to help make more days like this happen. We’d love to have you along.

Lots of options for all skill levels at the indoor rock climbing session!
